Mod Woman Thursday – Sora Hussein

Feb 22 2018Street styleby Kate Russell

From the ultra-glamorous and perfectly applied make-up to her elegantly modest, yet contemporarily cool style, Sora Hussein is building a personal and fashion-based brand within the modest industry. As our Mod Woman of the week, we sat down with the super stylish fashion blogger and designer to talk modest dressing, everyday life as a mother of one and her future business plans.

Sora says she started her style and beauty blogging journey through her love of fashion. As she received more and more questions about her beauty routine and how she built her outfits, she decided to emulate her favourite bloggers (Fatima Almoman and Tala Samman) and create her own blog and Instagram page.

When asked about her personal style described it as “casual yet classic chic”. Living between Dubai and London, her style has become a blend of two cultures; the elegance of the Middle East and the contemporary edge of London City.

Here are some of our favourite Instagram #ootd’s from Sora.

Sora’s top tip for dressing modestly? Choose pieces with different degrees of modesty. For example, choosing an oversized blazer over skinny jeans with a waist belt; the style flatters the figure, but in a stylishly modest way without too much bulk and loose fabric.

Inspired by designer labels such as Tom Ford, Haider Ackermann and Ava Hashemi, Sora looks for simple, bold design, like the styles she creates herself. She loves fashion pieces motivated by geometry and shape, creating contemporary, strong lines. In terms of the high street, she’s a fan of Zara and Stradivarius, as it’s often easy to select modest and stylish items in good quality.

While had her, we had to ask Sora what her top 5 fashion items were that she loves to style with everything. So, get your modest fashion inspiration notebooks out for her favourite pieces.

Faux Fur Gilet

Sora loves her gilets. Being able to dress them up with a chic, 2-piece set (pictured) or down with jeans means it’s versatile and eternally stylish. A great throw over piece. You’ll have to rush to pinch one before spring, so try this hooded version in faux fur from Parka London.

Chloe Drew Bag

The “bag of 2017”, coined by Sora, is listed as her favourite current pick for accessories. Sora opted for the Motty Grey shade, allowing the soft neutral tone to pair with almost any look. Treat yourself to your own Drew, from Selfridges.

Pointed Sock Boots

These ultra-smooth boots are Sora’s winter go-to. Easy to pair with anything from jeans to skirt and tights (pictured), sock boots add a touch of elegance and femininity to any casual outfit, whilst remaining super comfortable. Try this similar Public Desire pair from ASOS.

Skinny Jeans

Sora loves a washed out blue jean in skinny fit as a staple in her wardrobe. Ready for any occasion, the skinny jean comes out with heels, trainers or sandals, perfect to layer underneath a kimono or floor-length duster jacket (pictured). Try Topshop for the perfect fit.

Black & White Kimono

From her own collection, this black and white kimono is one of Sora’s very favourite pieces she has ever designed. It’s simple, elegant and easy to team with any outfit from daytime denim to evening wear. To get your own you’ll have to get in touch with Sora herself or keep an eye on her website, which is coming soon.

The future looks very bright for this modest fashion star in the making. With an already hectic schedule, which includes daily care for her young son, working on social media and her fashion line and trying to keep up with friends, Sora isn’t looking to slow down anytime soon. While she ultimately believes in Gods Will, Sora will continue to build her designer label, Sora, aiming to bring something new to the modest fashion store industry. She is in the midst of releasing her first capsule collection, having been designing for 4 years, and will be launching a summer range this year. Modest fashion lovers, watch this space!

We loved chatting to the beautiful Sora and are extremely excited to see where this modern, modest fashionista goes next. The collection looks breath taking so far and we’re sure that you’ll be hitting ‘follow’ on this lady’s super-stylish Instagram, to watch her journey unfold.
